On 28-29 October 2024, IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) is hosting the Underwater Rescue & Recovery (UWRR) Challenge, a challenge that tests the rescue and recovery skills of victims below the surface of the water. UWRR is designed to demonstrate participants' ability to perform search and rescue in challenging conditions, such as limited visibility, water depth and high pressure.
UWRR: A Challenge That Tests Courage and Skill
This challenge presents a situation that not only demands the diver's technical skills, but also the ability to adapt to the environment which changes. Under water pressure, participants must be able to move quickly, coordinate with the team, and maintain calm and accuracy in every rescue step. Every second counts, and a team's success in treating victims can depend on precision execution and effective collaboration.
Participants in UWRR will be faced with a series of complex tasks, starting from diving at certain depths, searching for trapped victims, to evacuating victims from underwater. In this situation, not only individual skills are important, but also team coordination must work perfectly. In the process, each team member must work together, overcome pressure, and maximize their role in ongoing rescue efforts.
Given the dangerous environmental conditions, this exercise teaches participants to always be ready to face various possibilities and make decisions quickly without compromising the safety of yourself or the victim. UWRR is a concrete manifestation of the ability and dedication of IFRC members to provide assistance in extreme situations.
